Car Key Programming in Solihull

Key programming pairs a new key with the vehicle's immobiliser. Our auto locksmith programs replacement keys, spare keys and remote fobs at your location across Solihull — 24 hours a day — using professional diagnostic equipment through the OBD port. Every key is tested before we leave. Call or WhatsApp 07367 634032.

Almost every car built in the last twenty years carries an immobiliser that expects the right electronic handshake from the key. Cut a blade without programming the chip and the engine will not turn over — which is why coding is built into every replacement key we provide.

The work happens where your car sits, with professional programming equipment: new keys coded in, spares added to the system, and tired fobs diagnosed and replaced. Call 07367 634032 or WhatsApp us now and tell us what the key is — or is not — doing.

What key programming involves

Key programming pairs a new key with the vehicle's immobiliser. The transponder chip inside the key is introduced to the car electronics — the immobiliser, and on many models the ECU and the body control module (BCM) — so the car recognises the key as its own.

The OBD port gives the locksmith access to the car's key memory. Through it, new keys are added, spares are registered, and faulty or missing keys can be removed where the system allows.

Rolling codes and remote functions

The remote buttons are a separate job from the immobiliser chip. Many fobs use rolling codes, where the transmitted code changes with every press so a captured signal cannot be replayed. When a fob is replaced, the new remote is synchronised to the car so locking, unlocking and boot release all work as before.

Frequently asked questions

Are you open 24 hours a day?

Yes — programming callouts run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Ring 07367 634032 at any time.

How much does a replacement car key cost?

What you pay hinges on the car and the key in question. Ring 07367 634032 with the registration for a no-obligation quote.

Can you program a key I bought online?

Possibly — it comes down to the key’s quality and whether the car accepts it. Used or unbranded keys frequently refuse to program. Share the details on 07367 634032 first and we will tell you straight whether it is worth attempting before you pay for anything.

My key turns but the engine will not start. Is that a programming fault?

It can be. If the immobiliser does not recognise the chip, the engine stays silent even though the blade turns. We diagnose it at your location — chip, fob or immobiliser — and only reprogram or replace what is actually at fault.

Do all replacement keys need programming?

Most modern ones do. Any key with a transponder chip — which covers the great majority of cars on the road — must be paired with the immobiliser or the engine will not start. Plain metal blades are the rare exception on older vehicles.
